Below are some of the Education related construction projects we have recently been involved with:
Completed during the summer of 2008 this £3.8million project with main contractor H.W.Pollard provided a stunning New Arts Centre. This centre is being used by children at Sidcot, but also for exhibitions and art classes. The Centre is an extraordinary resource for Sidcot School, surrounding communities and local schools.
This building wraps around the existing structure. Constructed from predominantly steel frame with an internal masonry infill and split face plinth facings with an internal spiral. This was a project Davis & Barrett demonstrated their diversity to achieve a complex design utilizing different materials, stones and lime mortars.
Richard Huish College
Although we enjoy working afar we had the privilege to enhance the local community and develop the educational facilities of our local sixth form college. Here we were part of the team that provided welcomed new facilities which nested naturally into the existing campus.
Although this project was on Davis & Barrett’s door step we still met the same restrictions and challenges we have become accustomed to, this allowed us to utilize our proactive approach and actively participate in the site team. With brick facings externally and traditional block work internally, the multi levelled building made an aesthetic addition to the skyline.
Teign New Sports Hall
Davis & Barrett are now have been selected to construct the Masonry works at Teign School which will see the traditionally constructed New Sports Facilities, complete with dance studios, badminton courts & changing facilities opening during this summer.
Davis & Barrett are providing the complete Materials, Plant and Labour package to main contractor Mansell, with the large masonry content including bespoke lintels and damp proofing accessories the Management and resources allocated to this project has seen the works nearing completion, on time, on Budget whilst maintaining Safety at all times.
Marine Building, Plymouth University
This £19 million marine building will house state-of the art research facilities including the most advanced wave tank and testing facilities in the country. Opening in spring 2012, it will position Plymouth as a global centre for marine energy research, harness innovation and help diversify and drive economic growth.
Davis & Barrett have recently been awarded the masonry package which includes plant rooms, internal walls and forming the facades. Davis & Barrett are excited to be part of this landmark building that will endorse Plymouth’s role as a leading marine centre in Europe.
Ashdown Technology College
This large contract signed by Balfour Beatty, worth £13.5m has thrilled Davis & Barrett. The construction programme is expected to last two years and includes an impressive new two storey building and extensive refurbishment. Once completed, Ashdown Technology College will accommodate 900 school pupils and 130 post-16 students. The project is central to the council's plans to change the age that children transfer from primary to secondary education in Poole from September 2013. Davis & Barrett will be working throughout the progress of this development using a range of different materials. Our trained operatives are operating mast climbers to access their works which is due for completion in 2013.
Richard Huish College
Following the success of the last teaching block (see project details in education menu) we are now on site constructing the brick and block work to the new two storey teaching block to the east of the college campus. Utilizing traditional methods our works will be critical to the programme with the floor and roofing dates to meet.
Davis & Barrett believe there is always room for improvement, building within the college for the second time we are striving to provide an even better more efficient service than last.
Teignmouth New Sports Hall
In a similar scheme to Teign this building will provide a sports hall incorporating five badminton courts and ancillary accommodation, including a fitness suite and a specialist PE classroom where students can study video analysis as part of the physical education learning.
Davis & Barrett’s day to day management and close team coordination will be paramount to the success of this project. With the similar Teign project being completed before Teignmouth commencement it has provided an opportunity to do something that was done well even better.
Davis & Barrett are pleased to be providing the masonry package for Mansell at the Technology Centre on the outskirts of Exeter.
The new facility will provide industry-led teaching space, workshops and laboratories for both practical and academic learning for around 300 students from across Exeter and Devon.
The centre will house technical workshops and classrooms including an MOT testing bay, garage workshop area for the repair, maintenance and servicing of motor vehicles and motorcycles. A CADCAM Engineering IT suite, diagnostic testing labs and a three-storey learning and IT centre will complete the centre.
