Below are some of the recent domestic housing construction projects that we have been involved with:
Poundbury is the urban extension to Dorchester in Dorset, and is famous internationally as a pioneering example of urban development.
It seeks to implement the principles expounded in the Prince of Wales 1989 book, ‘A Vision of Britain’ It is the result of The Prince’s belief on town-planning coupled with a long period of public consultation between 1988 and 1993. Poundbury is expected to be fully completed by 2025 when it will add approximately 5,000 to the population of Dorchester with 2,000 jobs in the factories, offices and general facilities across the site.
Davis & Barrett took great pride in constructed a number of these bespoke homes and offices, helping to create the Prince’s vision.
Work got underway at Springfield Road, Highbridge during October 2009 on building 73 new rented affordable homes. Working alongside Mansell construction this £10 Million project once again allowed Davis & Barrett to demonstrate their capabilities by providing this scheme, on time, safely, within budget and at the highest standard.
These affordable homes are key priority for Sedgemoor District Council and Davis and Barrett are proud to be a part of providing support for the future economic and community prosperity for the local area.
With a wide variety of detailing and finishes within this scheme Davis and Barrett has been able to demonstrate their vast array of skills and experience, this has helped achieve an outstanding end product that the local community will enjoy for many years and will become a bench mark for future social housing projects within local districts.
Davis & Barrett thrived in being part of the team that constructed these bespoke homes in Chard that enjoy panoramic views.
Davis & Barrett provided the brick façades to these detached dwellings which complimented the natural rural surrounding’s. The fast track method’s associated with timber frame construction allowed Davis & Barrett to allocate sufficient resources to complete this façade in record time, in turn allowing the scaffold to be removed and external finishes to be commenced.
We hope that the new home owner’s will enjoy these prestige Homes.
This project saw the development of a range of apartments and town houses on this site in Bristol. Timber frame construction suited the restricted access arrangements in which Davis & Barrett provided block work facades/retaining walls and facing screen walls. This was all undertaken with close coordination with a busy site team.
Once again Davis & Barrett demonstrated their ability to be a founding member of the team, this project successfully provided accommodation in the summer of 2009.
The Old Cider Works
The Old Cider Works, Norton-Fitz-Warren, Taunton is a re-generation of a former Cider factory and will provide the village with new homes and new amenities. This stunning development is set at the foot of the Quantock Hills and just outside the thriving market town of Taunton. With a range of 2, 3 & 4 bedroom homes there is a home for everyone.
Davis & Barrett under took the Substructure masonry works for the ground working subcontractor and gave these homes the foundations for a successful future.
Davis & Barrett were involved with major structural improvements to this refurbishment, providing the foundations for a fit out that created substantial affordable housing.
This was a challenging location but undeterred by the hostility shown by some we enforced the site team’s ambition to restore this local building to former glory. Following the structural improvements we set work on the external stonework which we cleaned and sympathetically repaired, releasing a new lease of life into the prestige frontage.
Situated close to the centre of this historic town of Axbridge this traditional mix of build techniques once again demonstrated Davis & Barrett 1st class skills set. With stepped roof levels, high spec fit out and a mixture of wall finishes this development ticked all the boxes.
On a project like this it was imperative that we worked closely with the local community to minimise disruption during the build. This was achieved, and now after completion Davis & Barrett feel that we have left behind an asset to the neighbourhood that blends considerately with its mature surroundings.
Rosewood Farm is situated within the town of Burnham On Sea, this housing development sits on the eastern side of an established residential area. The development offers a range of two and three bedroom properties all constructed utilizing traditional methods. Davis & Barrett’s ability to fluctuate resources yet maintain the highest quality standards has more than contributed to constructing some of the highest quality Homes in the South West.
Westcliffe House, Charmouth
This one off house that enjoys exceptional views of the bay nestles into the cliff side. With a mix of traditional materials with modern quirks this certainly will provide the Client an individual Home.
Davis & Barrett are pleased to be working with Matrix in erecting a two story extension to this care home. Shaftsbury Place currently homes 19 adults with physical and learning disabilities. This extension will create new bedrooms, a new lift shaft and lobby area. Requiring a high degree of sensitivity while working within an environment conscious of noise and disturbance, Davis & Barrett work very hard to eliminate this from becoming an issue. All of our operatives are trained in Asbestos Awareness by a UKATA trainer, thus meaning that our operatives are fully trained to undertake works within existing buildings, with the utmost consideration to not only us but also residents, staff and visitors.
Gatchell Meadows Residences
This impressive residence in the exclusive cud-de-sac in Trull provides the creative background for our masons to sculpt this prestige’s home. Working with local stones and natural lime mortars the heritage of Davis & Barrett’s tradesman is displayed in this project. With multiple roof levels and a number of stone features/quarks our experience with the details and materials will prove essential to the success of this project.
Davis & Barrett are pleased to be working closely again with our repeated customer Marshwood Homes. Following the success of Poplar Road, we have been awarded 5 prestigious development opportunities. Located in Taunton these exclusive family homes include three large 4-bedroom homes and two 3-bedroom homes. Davis & Barrett are proud of the level of repeat business we are awarded and as ever we will aim to surpass the last high bar set. These homes are due to be completed summer 2012.
20 Dwellings at Westfield, Curry Rivel
Following the demolition of a number of existing buildings Davis & Barrett where called upon to provide their renowned service to construct 20 dwellings which includes brickwork, blockwork, structural steel members and a number of special stone units.
These timber frame units where quickly erected which has now allowed the masonry elements to follow which in turn is realising units to renders. Due for completion later this year this will provide a number of dwellings for Yarlington Group a sustainable and mixed community for the long term.
12 Dwellings at Poplar Road, Taunton
12 New Dwellings to be constructing utilizing traditional methods will see this development nested into the established Black brook community.
Providing their services on a labour only basis Davis & Barrett are enjoying the opportunity to put their stamp on this development.
